First of all - I just found your podcast about two months ago, and now I drop everything when you post something new! Thanks for the quality information and advice.
When I first listened to this podcast about trend safari, I was a bit confused as to possible outcomes. I have never heard of the concept.
Recently, however, while reading "The world is flat" by Thomas Friedman I came across something that sounds very similar to "the trend safari." He discussed how a group of people from HP (Were you involved?) went to a small town in India to identify ways in which HP can create a product that could meet the need of poor Indians.
They found that people needed a cheap dependable way to take and develop pictures. The trend safari ultimately came up with the idea of solar powered, portable camera outfit. Apparently, it's become quite a success and has provided a business model for poor Indian women.
Thought I'd share an example of a successful trend safari, because it helped me to understand the concept a little better.
