With success comes complacency. With complacency comes letting your guard down. That’s when others will out innovate you. Why do we become complacent about innovation? Once we get an innovation process that seems to work, we protect it, we baby it, we nurture it. Be careful. If we maintain the status quo for too long, we build up resistance to change and that is counter to the whole concept of innovation.
So what should you do? Be willing to innovate the way you innovate.
Apply your innovation process (e.g. FIRE) to innovate the innovate process. I know this sounds strangely like some kind of Einstein paradox but think about it. If you want to stay ahead of the innovation curve, continously innovate the most important process for your business.
