Given my involvement in the maker movement via the Maker Faire in Silicon, I've been asked by the organizers of the Rocky Mountain Makerspace Conference to give a talk about the role of makerspaces and innovation.

sparking innovation via makerspace

The Rocky Mountain Makerspace Conference describes their event as a place where: …  new and seasoned leaders will share best practices, learn from talented presenters, and have a great time with our unique community. While the highlight of the weekend will be the time learning from each other, we are also pleased to have special presentations/session including:

  • Phil McKinney, President and CEO of CableLabs. In this capacity he heads the research and development organization responsible for the global cable industry’s technology and innovation roadmap.
  • A Tour of TinkerMill – followed by Beer and Barbeque
  • Sessions dedicated to Youth Maker Programs with a hands-on demonstration from Share Fair Nation
  • A Tour and Sunday Brunch with SparkFun Electronics
  • Ashley Kazyaka of the Colorado State Library Maker Program and Nate Stone of DPL's IdeaLab

Annual BBQ Celebration

I don’t know about you, but the summer is going by fast. Before it slips away, please join us for a BBQ at our ranch in Colorado on Saturday, August 27th starting at 4:00PM.

Michelle and I would love to have you join us and enjoy the views, reconnect with old friends and make new friends.

The BBQ is to celebrate our progress on Pioneer School in Rwanda. The land is purchased and cleared and construction is well underway. While we still have more to do, it’s been the support of friends who have helped us to build this school.

Pioneer School in Rwanda

Please join us for some great BBQ!

If you can join us, please RSVP at

Thanks …

Phil & Michelle McKinney

At each of the CableLabs Conferences (Summer and Winter), I give an update on the innovations we are working on along with a look out as to what is coming in the next three to eight years. In the case, I will be sharing what I am calling the “Near Future”.

new future keynote at keystone for CableLabs

While we get excited about Buck Rogers-type projects, this keynote will address what is right around the corner in order to ensure the audience is prepared to take advantage of these changes to their benefit.

If you wish to attend, you will need to register as a vendor for the event. You can register over at CableLabs.
